Tourism authorities won’t give up on Southern Thailand

The authority is keen to move on from last Saturday’s blast and restore tourist confidence in the region.
Urgent talks will be held between the TAT and local tourism operators throughout Thailand’s south to discuss plans for the Songkran celebrations.
As the largest city in Southern Thailand, Hat Yai plays host to some major sporting and tourism events throughout the month of April.  The 2012 Hat Yai Tennis Championship will take place from April 6 to 8, followed by the this year’s TAT Golf Challenge on April 28.
Biking for Tourism will also take place in four southern provinces (Phatthalung-Trang-Satun-Songkhla) from April 28 to May 1.

“We will kick off marketing campaigns immediately to rebuild the tourist image and confidence of this area, especially among Malaysian and Singaporean visitors,” said Mr Surapol.
To further build confidence with travellers, the TAT has also said that familiarisation trips to the region would be organised for members of Malaysia and Singapore’s tourism sector and travel media.
Malaysia, Singapore and the UK issued travel advisories on April 1, advising their citizens to reconsider travel in the southern border provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, and Songkhla.
